Bio
Faye Pamintuan is a visual artist currently based in Bulacan, Philippines. Constantly traveling between the Philippines and Texas, USA influences her practice – questioning the idea of barriers and the energies surrounding everyday happenings.
Pamintuan’s works reflect finding a sense of order in the disarray of traces left behind by her initial intuitive strokes. Working mostly with oil paint and watercolor, Pamintuan is fascinated by the emotional impact of color and the puzzle of balancing biomorphic shapes in a confined space.
She balances her studio practice alongside teaching art classes to both children and adults. Pamintuan graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. She was a 2016 Shell Painting Competition finalist and a 2014 PNOC Painting competition grand finalist. Her works have been exhibited at various galleries in Metro Manila such as 1335 Mabini, Vinyl on Vinyl, Mono8 Gallery and Artery Art Space.
Artist Statement
Faye Pamintuan is a painter born and currently based in the Philippines but spent her formative years residing in Texas, USA. Constantly traveling between the two countries informs her practice as she cultivates and maps out her own space in this in-between.
Pamintuan’s works are inquiries that respond to the dilemma of the diaspora: probing on the sense of self through imagined moments colliding, exploding, melting, and molding into each other. Her paintings manifest from outbursts of energy coupled with slow quiet moments of contemplation.
Through layers that encourage conversation between intuitive mark making and mediated strokes, she probes at the visual possibilities of slowing down movement, suspending time, and elongating moments.
